William Holmes

 

 

William was born on 31 Aug 1844 and Christened on 27 Sep 1844 at St Phillips Birmingham, to William Holmes and Caroline (née Whateley).

In 1861 he was a brush maker, like his father, living at 4 Ivory Place, St Thomas, Birmingham,

He married in Jun 1842 at Aston, Warwickshire to Maria Whyley, daughter of Thomas Whyley and Elizabeth.

In 1871 they are living at 21 York Place, Worcester, William still working as a brushmaker, and in 1881 in 13 St Swithin’s Street, Worcester St Swithin, Worcestershire.

By 1897 he has moved to Penarth, near Cardiff, Glamorgan. He started a Fruiterer’s business at 10 Glebe Street, Penarth. In 1895 the business  is at 7 Glebe Street (this could be a renumbering), However William is not there. In 1901 he, and the family are living at 2 St Augustine Place, Penarth, and William died in June 1907 in Penarth. Maria is still running the business in 1914 at 7 Glebe Street.

 

Children are: -

1 Edith Maria Holmes born Mar1870 in Worcestershire. She married Joseph Coles in December 1891 They lived in Roath, Cardiff in 1901 with 4 children. Wilfred Herbert, b Cardiff December 1892, Edith Irene born December 1893, Richard Leslie born June 1896, and Vivian Baden, born September 1900

2 Florence E Holmes born about 1872 in Worcestershire.

3 William F Holmes born about 1874 in Worcestershire

4 Mayfred Holmes born June 1877 in Worcester. she married Thomas Hale Fletcher in December 1908, and had at least one son Arthur H Fletcher, born Sept 1911 in Cardiff dist.

5 Amy Louise Holmes born December 1880 in Worcester

6 Arthur Whyley W Holmes born Mar 1888 in Penarth
