Ancestors of Staffurth Clarke |
Staffurth Clarke , my great great grandfather was born in Warboys, Huntingdonshire, (though working and living later in Oundle) as were all known ancestors. A recent visit to the Huntingdonshire RO and another to the Society of Genealogists in London, and also the purchase of the Huntingdonshire marriage has expanded knowledge of this branch. See the documents page for some wills and inventories.
The Clarkes, Johnsons and Nobles were all from Warboys, while the Bulls and Fishers were from Godmanchester. The Brices were from Alwalton.

Regarding Elizabeth Eadis/Edis. The possibilities have now been narrowed to one as all other possible Elizabeths died in infancy. Elizabeth was daughter of Thomas Edis and Mary, b Elton 1703.
Re Staffurth middle name. See here one explanation of the name Staffurth - it has recently been suggested to me that there is another possible explanation. I have not seen the records but apparently John Clarke married Jane Staffurth in 1751 (maybe in Ramsey), and had a son William Clarke (date unknown). William’s age was slightly out on burial, and this could be because I have the wrong baptism.. Jane Staffurth was 3rd child of John Staffurth Grazier of Ramsey.
